Faire Report #24: The motivation you need to hear.
Share
What’s on my brain this week?
Let’s talk about motivation for a minute.
Over the last few weeks, we’ve been meeting clients across America, and it has been a pretty powerful reminder of what growing a product brand can actually do.
We’ve met founders whose businesses have completely changed their lives. Businesses that have grown through Faire, created jobs, supported families and given their founders opportunities they didn’t have before.
And there is no reason that couldn’t be you.
You do not have to work with us to make Faire work
Now, let’s acknowledge the obvious.
The brands we’ve been visiting are clients who have chosen to work with us on their Faire accounts. Of course we’re going to shout about those results from the rooftops. We are remarkably proud of what we’ve achieved together.
But we have never believed that the only way to build a successful business on Faire is to hire us.
That’s exactly why we wrote How to Get More Sales on Faire. We took the framework we use every day and put it into a book you can download for free.
If you want to build the business of your dreams on Faire yourself, start there.
If Faire isn’t working, work out why
If Faire isn’t currently working for you, or it isn’t growing as quickly as you’d like, use this as a moment to really dig into why.
And be brutally honest with yourself.
Start right at the beginning. Is the product genuinely good enough for retail?
If it is, is the pricing right? Are the margins there for both you and the retailer? Do you have a large enough catalog to make wholesale worthwhile? Are you giving retailers enough products to build a meaningful order?
Then move onto the account itself. Is the imagery good enough? Are the listings optimized? Are your collections merchandised properly? Are you messaging retailers? Are you launching new products? Are you doing the work consistently?
A good product is not enough
This is probably the harder question.
If you know you have a good product and a good brand, have you actually put enough work into Faire to expect it to work?
Faire is not a platform where you upload a catalog once and wait for wholesale growth to happen to you.
The brands that grow are constantly improving the account, communicating with retailers, launching products, learning from the data and giving buyers more reasons to come back.
That can be done with us. It can also absolutely be done without us. But it does have to be done.
Final thought
We’ve just spent weeks sitting with founders who are living proof of what can happen when a great product meets a wholesale channel that works.
So if your Faire account isn’t where you want it to be yet, don’t just write the platform off. Work out what is holding you back, fix the next biggest problem, and keep going.
This could be you.
See you on the marketplace,
Andy
